AUTUMN MUST SEE DVD RELEASES

Fine Film written by Dan May film@finecity.co.uk

Remember Me (2010)

Yes, on its DVD cover and promotional posters this may look the textbook boy- meets-girl love story that has been re- visited time and time again. However, in this instance – do not judge a film by its cover; there is a lot more depth, edge and rawness to Remember Me.

Set in pre-9/11 New York, British actor Robert Pattinson plays Tyler Hawkins, a sensitive yet unruly young man, bitter, affronted and withdrawn from life due to his brother’s suicide and unconventional family dynamic. After Tyler and his best pal Aidan (Tate Ellington) get into a scuffle with a NY Police officer, Aidan carries out his own investigation and discovers that the police officer has a daughter, Ally (Emilie de Ravin). Eager for revenge, Aidan persuades Tyler to ask Ally out. Not long into their first meeting, Tyler soon discovers that the two have masses in common, and they swiftly find themselves gravitating towards one another, taking solace in their mutual issues.

Tyler’s connection with Ally is obviously the basis of the film, but his strained relationship with his father is a major aspect too. Pierce Brosnan (perfect casting) takes on the role of lawyer Charles Hawkins,

and his depiction of the unsympathetic and insensitive father opposite Pattinson’s over-sensitive and heart-worn-on-sleeve Tyler makes for excellent and explosive viewing.

Robert Pattinson’s tour-de-force

performance shows the audience that he is worthy of more than just the teen pin- up status that starring in a smash hit like Twilight inevitably brings. His portrayal of Tyler Hawkins is full of compassion, emotional roughness and anger. A special mention must also be made for Ruby Jerins. Jerins plays Tyler’s younger sister and closest ally. The chemistry Jerins and Pattinson share in their scenes adds a fine element to the feature.

Remember Me is a great DVD to watch on a quiet autumn’s afternoon - but be prepared for an enormously heartbreaking climax…
