Deloitte urges companies to maximise the commercial benefi ts of the 2012 Games By Pete Hayman
Deloitte has urged UK business to 'wake up' to the economic benefi ts that will be generated as a result of the hosting of the London 2012 Olympics. According to research by the
professional services fi rm, more than two thirds of companies in the UK do not see the Games as having an impact on their ability to operate as normal. Deloitte also said that more
than 50 per cent of businesses in the hospitality, tourism and leisure industry did not predict any signifi cant impact as a result of the event. However, the report revealed
that around a quarter of fi rms had started to plan, with individuals or groups appoint- ed in order to manage risks and assess opportunities.
The report showed a quarter of fi rms are planning for the Games Rick Cudworth, head of the
business continuity and resilience team at Deloitte, said: "Many of these businesses need a wake-up call. They operate in service industries where people are vital, where the supply chain is time-critical and where having products on
the shelf or food to serve in restaurants is essential. "We believe that – with
insight and planning – busi- nesses can maximise the oppor- tunities to benefi t commercially from London 2012. The clock is ticking and the planning needs to start now."
Arts Council England reveals funding cut details By Pete Hayman
Arts Council England (ACE) has revealed its 'implementation plan' that has been agreed in order to deal with a 29.6 per cent cut to its budget. Following a meeting of the
National Council, the organisa- tion is to reduce the grant-in- aid budget from the current £449m baseline to £349m by 2015, which is a real-terms cut of £457m over four years. The amount of cash available
for regularly funded organisa- tions will be cut by 14.9 per cent by 2014-15, while there is
