Macella's Corner From the Horse's Mouth

have now from the room I spend my days in, aside from work time. I'm approaching my one year anniversary at this place and the seasons changing out my window have been a welcome delight. As usual, I had no idea what to expect when I arrived,

I

again, at another new place. In my line of work, we peacefully just go where we are taken. It was a little hot, but the autumn produced the most spectacular colors in the valley full of vineyards my front door looks out on. The air was pungent with the distinctive aroma of ripe grapes, and the crisp morning feelings that followed the giant golden harvest moons made me feel young again and want to get out and kick up my heels a bit. But, I was reminded there was a time and place for that. During my many trips out of town, without me at

and wet. Even though winter arrived with days of driving rain, it was comforting to it watch from my cozy room and I loved the peaceful sound of rain on the barn roof. It must be confessed though, that working was a bit less fun. Sweating in the cold weather made it a little more difficult to get all the dirt and grime off, but usually a big blanket was given to me to ease the cold shivers. After a remarkably festive home Christmas holiday sea- son, I was back on the road again and excited to head to the desert where it was warm. At Thermal I got to be around all my friends who come from all over the world to compete. Head to head competition, I love that and winning gives us bragging rights!! With so many competi- tors, I got to meet new friends and cozy up with ones I already knew. It's a good thing I too am a world traveler so I could understand their language. Fun and successful as it was, I eventually had my fill of

the busy, sandy and occasionally "breezy" desert, and we got in a van to head home. The brilliant green spring that we returned to put the bounce right back in my step. The blossoms gave way to this lovely summer of morning fog that lifts late morning to reveal the mountains across the valley and let the sun shine for the rest of the day. Before the fall World Cup competitions start, I am home again to rejuvenate. My neighbors are a pretty fun group and unlike many

of the places I've been, lots of them have lived here for a long time. Right next door to me is a big beautiful girl

home, the fall season colors succumbed to sort of drab grays,

but I each time I returned I rejoiced in the cold

've done some traveling in my days and I've lived the high life along the way, but I have to say I've never had a nicer view in my life than the one I

named Natalia that's lived here for seven or eight years and was a bit shy at the start, but I do believe I've suc- ceeding in winning her over with my gentlemanly ways. The corner next to me houses a crazy Brit, that's origi- nally from France, who apparently never sleeps and is exceptionally busy. He thankfully shares a wall with a very patient chap that turns out to be my half brother, who has certainly been my most informative and civilized new acquaintance. We've now done quite a bit of traveling together and he's proven himself to be unflappable and composed at all times. Actually quite a good role model for everyone here, I do believe Dad would be proud. From my origins in Germany I've traveled the world and after all these years I still love my job, and especially living in the north of California.
