You had a successful career before transitioning to art full time. What inspired you to focus on painting and photography?

I walked into a museum in Montreal in 2003 and saw an exhibition that moved me so profoundly that a part of me was instantly transformed. I realized how much art could impact someone’s life and understood what my heart desired the most. I wanted to create art that could uplift the human spirit just as mine had been.

Was your intention to enjoy your art as a hobby and source of fulfillment, or was your plan to become full-time with it?

I jumped right in and learned the skills of being an artist... which I am still continuing to do. It never really stops. The questioning, doubts, and financial ups and downs all come with it. I love to say that creating art is the best therapy. My intentions are still the same. I am creating art as a source of personal fulfillment along with hopes of financial gain.

Many people have a desire to do art full-time, but wonder when to transition it from being their “other thing” to being their “main thing”. How did you know that change had come?

I was driven by a passion right from the beginning. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t have my share of uncertainties and fear. To be honest, it is just recently after eight years of being a full-time artist that I finally trust and embrace my role as an artist. To answer your question, I felt deep inside of me that it was time for me to stop dreaming, and to go deeper into my profession and get to work to make my dreams my reality. The desire then surpassed the fear. After that... it’s all discipline.

You work in two mediums, doing both paint and photography. What do you capture with each medium, and what is the purpose of both?

I am glad you are asking me this question. I can tell you how excited I am about my new preferred medium, photography! During the last eight years, I have become recognized for my skyscape paintings, which were created as an expressive gesture to reflect my need for simplicity and beauty. I found these traits within nature. As I look back at those images, I can see how they reflected my inner search for the removal of clutter from my life, and the desire to adhere to a simpler life with more expressive freedom. It was during those transformative years that my personal focus led me towards meditation and spiritual studies. The sky series were a true reflection of what was going on in my life.

I am presently continuing the exploration of the power and divinity of nature through photography. This is a new medium for me and allows me to have more flexibility, more room to be creative, and is less rigid than painting in terms of its applications. It has given me new wings for expression. Similar to a painter, I use photographs to construct images one detail at a time. “Photo-Fusion” is a lengthy process during which hundreds of photographs are taken, light and visual properties are attuned, and each are assembled to build one large composition. My photographs represent a new way of looking at the simplicity of nature and finding the beauty and wonder within. And, I guess, I

am building a new foundation for my life.
