To Everything there is a Season by Padre Matthew Olanrewaju

S

ir Winston Churchill once said: “To each there comes in his or her lifetime a special moment when they are tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talent.”

God knows this only too well and assigns us each different roles according to our talents, graces and abilities. As chaplains, we witness this everyday; the professionalism and confidence by which our Service people carry out their duties, both at home and on operations, they are exemplary indeed. We also pay tribute to our partners who stay behind to look after our interests and families while we go and carry our duties to the country.

But at some time we all need to take a break; taking time for relaxation and recuperation. It is important to switch off so that you can be fully rested and re-charged before you get back to work.

A story was told of the man who went on an expensive holiday. He took his mobile phones, an ipod and laptop. He spoke endlessly on his mobile and filled the remaining time surfing the net and on Facebook. He had very little time for sleep and discovering the country he had paid so much to visit. As a result, when he returned to work, he was still very tired.

God has given us the duration called time and, while nature is steady in its course, and animals faithful to their instincts, man

devotes it to a great many purposes, often to that for which God never made time, space or opportunity!

So keep the flag flying and keep the morale up. Look after yourselves and may the joy and blessings of God be with us, but do remember to take that break and leave the wonders (and stresses) of modern communication behind just for a while! 

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die;

A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sow; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace.

In August last year I was fortunate enough to win the Luxury Dinner Cruise kindly donated by Sodexo.

his weekend we included the prize as part of our anniversary celebration weekend in London with very dear
