ummer is here and there seems to be a burst of activity to report. The section
‘Federation News’ is becoming more and more extended as we try to report
on all we at the Federation are up to, let alone all that is going on and progressing in the corridors of power. We really feel that the senior staffs and ministers are understanding what the issues are, so do keep
talking to us about what it is that is important to you. Here’s hoping for a long hot summer.
Good reading The Editor
From the Chairman
y the time you read this edition of Envoy, the RAF FF will have conducted several of its new interactive workshops aimed at gathering family-
related evidence. Early trials with the Service Community Support Officers and with audiences at Cranwell and Marham proved that the interactive nature of the workshops was widely welcomed as something different, and far more fun than filling in endless paper surveys.
The opportunity to vote on the more contentious aspects of family policy, for example lone parenthood, out of hours childcare, recognition of partners, the allocations policies for Service Families Accommodation, etc, created a buzz amongst our audiences and we look forward to analysing the results in due course.
The evidence gathered in these workshops will be translated into reports and sent to anyone the Federation team believes needs to know – from senior RAF staffs to Ministers to the Chief Executive of Defence Estates. But in order for these reports to be credible, we need audiences with whom we can interact. So, if we are conducting a workshop at your unit (visit programme detailed on the Federation News pages) please make the effort to come along and have your say – every vote counts! You may not win a £million but you could help change current policy.
Over recent months, we have also been refreshing our marketing communications to ensure that our key messages are conveyed in a consistent and eye-catching manner to our audiences. We have added the words Investigate, Influenceand Change to our existing logo to describe what we believe to be our core business and a new
The RAF Families Federation T
he RAF Families Federation provides an independent voice for serving RAF, RAF Reserves and their families.
Te Federation represents any concerns arising with a RAF family connotation. We receive calls on the difficulties families face on matters of Service policy, postings, separation, children’s education, health issues, dentists, special needs provision, serving lone parents, housing matters, pay and remuneration, childcare, non-entitled partners, etc, etc.
The Federation operates outside the chain of command, acts independently and feeds your thoughts direct to senior RAF staffs and Ministers in the great hope that things will change for the better.
The FF conducts regular visits to RAF units. We have our own website
www.raf-ff.org.uk and quarterly magazine. Our

strap line “We’re in Your Corner” demonstrates our commitment to the family members. We hope that, over time, audiences will come to recognize the look and feel of the Federation’s marketing material and that we will be able to develop our brand identity to underpin our independent and unique role.
Finally, we are grateful to the RAF and to our parent charity, the Royal Air Forces Association, for funding 2 new part-time posts to support our efforts in representing RAF families and we are delighted to welcome Andy and Nick to the team.

The magazine is one way of communicating our activities to those we serve and is a good source of information on aspects of RAF life likely to impinge on you or your family. It is factual, informative and is an all round good read. It is written in non-RAF speak and families are finding it especially useful.
If you would like to receive your own copy, delivered to your door request it on line at
www.raf-ff.org.uk or call 01780 781650. There is no charge at all for this service as we, and the RAF, would like to encourage you and your family to read Envoy.
