Question 24

We must scale the data down so that we have a total of only 50 instead of 382. We therefore multiply the data by 

We are only interested in the girls in year 13 so we scale down this category .

85 x   = 11.1 girls. Obviously we can’t have 11.1 girls in our sample so we round this figure to 11.

Question 25 This means that we can write the equation

y   this can be rewritten as

y = kx where k is a constant (to be found)

a) we know that x = 500 when y = 10 so we have 10 = k x 500 rewrite k x 500 = 10 divide both sides by 500 k = 0.02

So y = 0.02x b) y = 0.02 x 350 = 7
