The Norman Conquests Norman is packing them in and cracking them up the Cygnet’s Old Town
Theatre. Winner of the 2009 Tony for Best Revival of a Play, Alan Ayckbourn’s in- genious comedy consists of three interlaced full-length plays—Table Manners, Living Together and Round and Round the Garden. All tell the story of a quirky librarian and his similarly unconventional in-laws over one hilarious weekend. Each play in the trilogy reveals the story from a different room in an English county home and each uncovers more and more hysterical answers to the characters’ peculiar behaviors—ultimately creating a final uproarious picture. Uniquely crafted for each play to stand entirely on its own, audiences have the option of enjoying a single show in the series or partaking in all three for even deeper insight and more laugh-filled revelations. This extraordinary feat from Cygnet Theatre Company is one of the only
productions being done in the country this year. Due to the extreme demands of cast and rehearsal time, few companies dare to produce Ayckbourn’s entire trilogy, opting instead to perform only a single show from the series.

Jack Goes Boating Ion Theatre Company’s fifth full season continues this month with the regional
premiere of Bob Glaudini’s moving and intoxicating play Jack Goes Boating, a theatrical production which got its off-Broadway start in 2007 and starred Philip Seymour Hoff- man. Four flawed, lower-middle-class New Yorkers collide while learning how to stay afloat in the deep water of day-to-day living. Laced with cooking classes, swimming lessons and a smorgasbord of illegal drugs, Jack Goes Boating is a story of date panic, marital meltdown, betrayal and the prevailing grace of the human spirit. Ion Theatre Company continues to offer San Diego theatre goers some of the boldest and most thrilling new works in its intimate new home, BLKBOX @ 6th & Penn, nestled in the heart of Hillcrest’s nightlife district.
Jack Goes Boating plays September 15 – October 9. Ion Theatre Company offers a $4 discount to most shows for seniors, students, military and members of AASD and AEA—as well as a $10 student rush for all shows. For more information call 619.600.5020 or visit

Monty featuring a cast of seasoned veterans led by Broadway and touring veteran Timothy Quinlan (Footloose and Jersey Boys), and Welk Show Veteran Cissy King (of Cissy and Bobby). Based on the award-winning film of the same name The Full Monty is set in Buffalo, New York, where a local steel mill has just folded forcing two newly unemployed friends to come up with some new and creative ways to make ends meet. After seeing the wildly enthusiastic reactions of their wives to a Chippendale’s style troupe, they come up with the idea of doing a similar one-night performance to make some quick money. The duo hires four other unemployed factory work- ers for the act and names their dance group, “Hot Metal.” Unfortunately, the initial rehearsals are anything but hot, so to boost ticket sales the group announces they will outdo the “professionals” by going “the full Monty.” But the question is do they have the nerve? In the process of overcome their fears, their left feet and ultimately their clothes, the men discover renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun. Locals may remember that The Full Monty got its start at the Old Globe Theatre back in 2000 before its hugely successful run on Broadway where it was nominated for ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Don’t miss its San Diego County home- coming starting on September 9.
The Full Monty plays September 9 – October 17. For tickets and additional details, visit welkthe-
atresandiego.com. Due to the adult nature of the show, The Welk Theatre does not recommend it for those under 17 years old.
