The sky’s the limit
Following a hectic week at the Farnborough International Airshow, the Heller engineering team is busy following-up the enquiries generated and arranging demonstrations of its wide range of high quality, aerospace related machine tools.
Present throughout the course of the show, Heller UK’s managing director Geoff Lloyd reported: “Farnborough 2010 was a tremendous success for Heller. Our exhibition theme ‘Taking Cost out of Quality’ appears to have struck a major chord with many of the exhibitions visitors and as a result, our staff were kept very busy demonstrating how the use of Heller’s advanced machine tools is able to help

aerospace manufacturers achieve production savings of up to 30%.
“Throughout the course of the exhibition, a 5-axis Heller machine was on display
showcasing its titanium cutting ability,” he continued. “Applying our normal exhibition enquiry conversion rates, we anticipate high levels of machine tool sales to aerospace manufacturers,
Engineering regeneration
As well as producing high technology machine tools, Mori Seiki understands the need to promote engineering and the benefits of helping young people to become the innovators of the future. Supporting the AMRC in Rotherham and co-sponsorship of the MANTRA truck on display at the recent MACH event are just two of the initiatives it has supported to encourage excellence and inspire the pursuit of engineering as a career.
Adrian Allen, co-founder and commercial director of the AMRC remarked: “Mori Seiki is one of the founding fathers of our research centre. Its
philanthropy and proactive input has been invaluable in helping us to build a world-class facility and it is testimony to the company’s long-term view of its business and the importance it puts on research for improving its products through new tools, techniques and technologies. The AMRC is proud to have such an association with one of the world’s leading machine tool companies.”

The MANTRA truck is the embodiment of an original idea developed by Mr Allen and Keith Ridgway, professor of design and manufacture at the University of Sheffield, to promote the importance of manufacturing and to encourage
“By taking the truck to schools and colleges the MANTRA team aims to show off the latest technologies, the environment engineers work in, and some of the exciting products produced, ranging from jet engines to baby scanners and racing cars – illustrating the key role engineers play in developing the world’s

Mr Allen concluded: “We are delighted that Mori Seiki is sponsoring the MANTRA truck – again, it shows its commitment to the future, the AMRC and indeed the UK.”
Bring any job from your current production and challenge us to programme it on the WinMax control. If you prove that it can be programmed quicker and easier on any other machining centre control, we will give you a Hurco tooling trolley loaded with eight 40 taper toolholders and collets.
Heller claims its product range is particularly suitable for aerospace applications – helping manufacturers achieve significant cost savings and enhanced productivity levels and a fast return on investment. “But all the productivity gains are not achieved at the expense of quality,” Mr Lloyd added. “The company’s advanced in-process monitoring and inspection systems ensure that aerospace components are machined right first time – every time.”

If you decide as a result of the demo to purchase a Hurco machine, we will supply the trolley and toolholders free of charge.
The Hurco WinMax control is open to all forms of
programming. The simple conversational user interface allows quick, easy programming whatever the original format. You can automatically calculate the intersection points from a simple sketch or read dxf files direct into the control. Network, floppy, RS232 and USB are all supported. The control is ISNC compatible, so that programmes from your old control can be read. Conversational rotary and high-speed profiling are two of the many features that are now standard on the WinMax control.
