Celebration Farmers’ Market Resumes D

Roy’s Natural Market Passing the Torch

oy Beard, owner of Roy’s Natural Market and known as the dean of health food in Dallas, is retiring. Beard recently celebrated his 80th birthday and is passing the health food torch to Natural Gro- cers, by Vitamin Cottage. On August 15, Roy’s will close, and a new Natural Grocers will open on Au- gust 31 in the Preston Forest Village Shopping Center, at 11661 Preston Road, less than a mile from Roy’s current location. Beard says, “Organic is every-

where now,” noting that Roy’s goal was always offering better nutri- tion for the world. During his many years in the health food business, Beard developed a loyal following and good friends among the stores’ customers, and during July he spent a couple of hours each afternoon saying goodbye to them.

allas Celebration Market, located in a small converted house just east of Celebration Restaurant on West Lovers Lane, is resuming its popular Saturday Farmers’ Market. Focusing on farmers and ranchers who already sup- ply the restaurant, Celebration ensures an ample selection of items by also going to the Dallas Farmers’ Market and filling in any gaps.

Open from 8 a.m. to noon every

Saturday during growing season, the farmers’ market takes place under tents in the parking lot between Celebration’s restaurant and market and is convenient for shoppers in the Park Cities and Love Field neighborhoods. Vendors offer a wide variety of locally grown produce and handmade products, and everything is labeled with the by farm/farmer or place of origin. Shoppers can enjoy sampling signature healthy, homestyle fare. Vendors include Cherokee Point Ranch, with a full line of grass-fed beef; The Grain Exchange, with gluten-free mixes; Café Mae Libros, offering custom-blend- ed pure teas and mate; Heddin Family Farms; McM Organic Farms; Oak Cliff coffee; Texas Honeybee Guild; Texas Worm Ranch; Waggin’Tail Treats; WeMe Breads; Mozzarella Company cheeses; and Mill Creek Farms, from Canton. Opened in 1971, Celebration Restaurant was built of real stone, wood and copper to provide “real” food, and has maintained that mission as the restaurant expanded. Through the years, they have added two old houses, a full-service bar and a patio, complete with a stone fireplace and fountain. They also expanded their services to include catering; the Celebration Market, which provides real home-cooked food for take-out meals; and the Farmers’ Market. Continuing the restaurant’s family tradition of serving fresh, wholesome and healthy food, Celebration Market is now working to begin listing the nutritional values of its meals.

Location: 4503 West Lovers Lane, Dallas 75206. For more information, visit CelebrationRestaurant.com and CelebrationMarket.com. See ad on back cover.
