A culture of support and respect…
How will Marine Academy students be supported? Each student will be a member of one of four mixed-age Houses. Our Vertical Tutoring system will allow students to work together to develop tolerance, trust and empathy. Younger students will be helped, guided and inspired by older students. Older students will be able to develop important leadership skills.
Mixed-age tutor groups will be led by a tutor/mentor who will work with parents and carers. They will monitor progress, provide personal support, encourage high achievement
and underachievement.
Anti-discrimination A primary obligation of all staff and students is to ensure that the Marine Academy policy of non-discrimination and mutual respect is adhered to. This duty obliges all individuals to behave in a manner reflective of the ethos of the college; where no individual is negatively impacted by the wrongful behaviour of others.
Discrimination comes in many forms and may be aimed at various aspects of an individual’s being; such as race, creed, religion, disability or nationality. By adopting a pragmatic definition of discrimination, the Academy aims
to protect discrimination in all its guises. against such challenge
Safeguarding Marine Academy Plymouth recognises that it has a duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we will carry out this duty through our teaching and learning, pastoral care and extended activities. All members of the college community (including volunteers and governors) will at all times establish and maintain a safe and stimulating environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk to adults they can trust and are listened to.
Special Educational Needs We believe that the education of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is the responsibility of every member of staff. The Academy aims for all students to achieve their potential and to be an inclusive institution.
We provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced and differentiated, and accessible to all students.
Students with SEN are entitled to the whole curriculum and special educational provision will be organised according to individual needs, whether they be communication and interaction, cognitive and learning, behaviour, emotional and social development, or sensory and/or physical.
