ity’s (NYPA) Information Technology department “Help Desk,” when a tap on the shoulder from her supervisor changed the course of her career. She was asked to be part of a team overseeing the imple- mentation of SAP (System Application and Programming), a resource planning application designed to help organiza- tions move various business activities to software-based and Web services-based solutions to increase adaptability, flex- ibility, openness and efficiency. Gooden began work at NYPA in 1985 as a word processing operator in a typist pool, and has been promoted seven times in 25 years. She credits the opportuni- ties she’s had to advance her career and the flexibility NYPA affords her to be involved in her sons’ lives as the primary reasons for her success. “I feel really fortunate to have grown up in a company that has allowed me to build a career and get to my sons’ football games,” said Gooden. “I’m looking forward to my next 25 years at NYPA.”
