1. This gold merchant’s ring was discovered in the 1920s on Chesil Beach by a man who combed the Jurassic Coast for fossils and shipwreck treasure. It will now sold by his grandchild at Duke’s of Dorchester on June 17. Rings of this type were worn by important trade merchants and were marked with a circular seal, engraved with the merchants’ mark. During the 1980s and early 1990s, this ring was on display at the Dorset County Museum and it probably dates to the 1450s. It has survived in good condition and is inscribed in Latin to the shank, which translates as O Mother of God, Remember Me. Estimate £2000-3000. Contact 01305 265080
