The Boiler Scrappage Scheme is available to anyone who replaces a G-rated boiler with a modern boiler, or a renewable heating unit. “We were initially concerned that the scheme would only look at replacing old gas boilers for new gas boilers, which would have penalised green technologies such as air source heat pumps, so we are delighted that they have been included in the scheme,” said John Kellett, General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Heating Systems Division.

Wrekin Sheltered Housing Enters the Solar Age

Residents at Lawndale sheltered housing in Donnington, Telford, are set to slash their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint following the installation of solar thermal on the roofs of their bungalows. The installation means the bungalows will collectively reduce their carbon footprint by two tonnes a year, while residents will see savings of up to 17 % a year off their hot water heating bills. Installation took just two days for each property, with minimum disruption enabling residents to remain in their homes at all times. The success of the Lawndale scheme means SPI npower is set to install solar thermal panels on further properties for The Wrekin Housing Trust. The heating system includes a control options for each room, which has proven popular with the residents.
