To harvest free geothermal heat available from depths below 15m a heatpump is employed to raise the temperature of the heat and deliver it into the building. To achieve this we abstract groundwater at 10/14°C, and we install underfloor heating which is more efficient than radiators, and which heats the building using water at temperatures of 30°C. This means 6 kilowatts of heat is delivered at the required temperature by a heatpump using 1 kilowatt of electricity. At Earthtest Energy we ensure the system is correctly integrated into the buildings design and construction and that interfaces with other systems are properly managed. Correctly installed a geothermal heatpump and underfloor heating system requires no maintenance and lasts the life of the building.

can be centrally controlled by radio frequency whereby the system programming is done on PC using the supplied software and the settings sent to a USB hub / transmitter. The USB hub can then be disconnected from the PC and will continue to send the signals to the system. Each room can be set to a different temperature and operating time if required. The software also includes ‘smart metering’ which enables the user to see exactly how much energy each radiator has been using and at what cost.

E10 Solar Combi at Grand Designs Live London

The Electric Heating Company’s E10 Solar Combi will be featured in an eco-house at Grand Designs Live London 2010. The E10 Solar Combi is based on EHC’s highly successful Fusion E10 Combination Unit and has been developed to include a solar pump station and an unvented solar hot water cylinder. The solar unit helps improve the SAP rating of a property as it reduces the carbon emission profile. It is the ideal heating solution for properties with no access to mains gas, or those with gas restrictions. It can be used for both conventional wet central heating and underfloor heating installations. Depending on location, the E10 Solar Combi with a south facing solar panel can supply up to 70% of the annual domestic hot water required for a two or three bedroom property.
