Te DMC Commitment
Putting Detroiters First:
Te Detroit Medical Center and Vanguard Health Systems partnership will provide a strong financial foundation to preserve, protect and strengthen all of DMC’s hospitals for the future and for Detroiters.
What’s in the DMC/Vanguard Partnership for Detroiters?
DMC Ensures Charitable Care Will Be There for Detroiters
With Vanguard’s financial support and commitment to urban healthcare, DMC will continue to provide charitable care and serve as the healthcare safety net for Detroit today and into the future. Vanguard has made a long-term commitment to Detroit, and has already guaranteed that it will not close any DMC hospital in the next ten years.
$850 Million Investment in Detroit’s Future
Vanguard’s $850 million investment in the DMC is the single largest private investment in our history. Detroiters should have the same access to care as citizens anywhere else. This strong financial foundation will preserve, protect and strengthen all of DMC’s hospitals for our future.
New Jobs for Detroiters
This investment in Detroit means as many as 5,000 new, diversified jobs in construction and development, not to mention the support jobs that will come in healthcare to staff and support these efforts.
DMC Maintains its Commitment to Employees
Employees will continue in their same jobs and their seniority, pay and benefits will be protected. All union contracts will be honored.
Strong Community Support for DMC/Vanguard Partnership
“We are elated that someone from the outside looks at Detroit as a place where they can make an investment and get a return on that investment. I think it will send a message around the country that we as a city are open for business.”
- Detroit Mayor Dave Bing
“I’m excited about nearly a billion dollars of investment in the City of Detroit and I’m go- ing to do what I can, along with my colleagues, to incentivize Vanguard for being here and for making this level of investment.”
- Charles Pugh, President, Detroit City Council
“Tis is a great day for Sinai-Grace. It’s going to allow us to deliver to the people who live in northwest Detroit, and frankly in southeastern Michigan, the care they deserve in the circumstances that they require…the community, I can tell you, is absolutely thrilled.”
- Conrad Mallett, President, Sinai-Grace Hospital
“We’re really excited about the fact that Vanguard likes urban healthcare and that’s really who we are, that’s what we do. And most importantly they have acknowledged and demon- strated commitment to the community and to medical education. Te two things we value the most.”
- Lorna Thomas, M.D., Chair, DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital Board
“DMC has been unable to raise capital, so they have to partner to take the necessary steps to insure a future of quality health care for Detroiters. DMC along with Vanguard is making a major investment to provide first-class, high-quality care to Detroit. I support that.”
- Rev. Horace L. Sheffield III, Detroit minister, community activist
“We are cautiously optimistic. Overall, it’s a good plan. It needs a little fine tuning, but we look forward to working with the DMC and Vanguard to make this partnership be all it can be for the hospital and most importantly for Detroiters.”
- Rev. Malik Shabazz, New Marcus Garvey Movement, community organizer
“We talk about ‘Medical Miles’…Tis is going to be a ‘Medical Universe’ that we see for not only southeast Michigan, but the entire United States. We appreciate Vanguard’s faith in us; we look forward to a long-lasting relationship, and we know that this is going to send a message: if you want to invest, invest in Detroit and Wayne County.”
- Robert Ficano, Wayne County Executive
