Charitable circle celebrates 50 years

Grace Waugh and her husband,
the Rev. Paschal Waugh, served
Weaverville United Methodist
Church from 1957 - 1961. In those
brief four years at the church, Grace
left a legacy that has spanned 50
years. Members of the Grace Waugh
Circle celebrated the anniversary of
their charitable committee Thurs-
day (Feb. 19) with a luncheon.
“Grace was a woman that saw
needs and acted upon them,” Barb
Scott said.
Grace began the circle in Feb-
ruary 1959 as an opportunity for
mothers with school children to
meet.
The early members, including
herself, were Laura Powell, Nan
Ailey, Lucyle Dailey, Kay Howell,
Jean Kennett, Blanche Pruett,
Nancy Reagan, Melba Reagan,
Lelia Smith, Kathryn Weaver, Jo
West, Nellene West, Ann White
and Laura Wilde.
The group sold goods and raised
monies to donate to local aid orga-
nizations. Today, the group gives to
Meals on Wheels, Eliada Homes,
Grace Waugh at 80.
Guests enjoy a lunch.
