our bus trips. They really seem
to enjoy being with each other,
which is very important consider-
ing the length of our season.” As
with our other North Buncombe
cheering squads, these young la-
dies work together to support
many of our other BlackHawk
athletes. “It is wonderful to see
girls enjoy what they are doing so
much. I also love to see kids that
honor their commitments and
give 100 percent to whatever they
are doing.”
The 2009 junior varsity squad
includes the 12 cheerleaders listed
below, eight of which are sopho-
mores. Many of these girls are ac-
tive in theatre, student council,
various clubs and other school ac-
tivities. They are also very strong
students academically. The team
is also involved in community
service, including an upcoming
holiday project for needy children
in our area. In August, the squad
also held a car wash where half of
all proceeds were donated to the
American Heart Association.
With the NBHS basketball sea-
son beginning this week, there is
no rest in sight for these junior
varsity cheerleaders. We are very
thankful for their enthusiastic en-
ergy for their fellow BlackHawks
and for our North Buncombe
community. Keep having fun!
