BANG THE DRUM
Welcome to
S
now, ice, sleet, rain, what a fun way to start the New Year! Hopefully we have had our
share of the troublesome white stuff for this winter but somehow I am not too confident
about that. However, here’s a fine warm welcome to PROPERTYdrum’s Feb r u a r y i s s u e .
After a very slow start it is time to move on with strategies for survival, plans for success;
it’s not going to be an easier year for most (maybe all) of us, with a General Election, financial
constraints and a persistent nervous twitch in the property market.
However, it pays to be positive and we are hearing some good news. House prices are likely
to be stable or even rise slightly, with a 40 per cent rise projected by Savills by the end of this
decade! Many property firms are recruiting again – see our feature on Recruitment and jobs
on offer. Agents we have been speaking to are definitely upbeat, with new branches planned
and some very positive vibes – see our interview with Kate Boyes of Alexandre Boyes in
Tunbridge Wells. New stunning buildings continue to appear on our horizon – see the Shard
of Glass report, it’s going to be the most fabulous building and I can’t wait to visit it.
Another positive is the holiday lettings market in the UK; with stay-cations all the rage,
(who really likes flying these days?) the
Agents are definitely upbeat
agents specialising in holiday lettings are
doing very nicely – as are their landlords,
with new branches planned

and some very positive vibes...
Russell. Meanwhile in the international
arena there are happy places and sad
places as far as the winter sports market
is concerned – Andrea Kirkby went on a slippery trip to see where is sliding and where is
gliding. Property portals look set for more change and consolidation this year and we have news
on the controversial announcement about Google’s plans to launch a property search facility for
UK homes. We will be reporting on developments on this as we know more, but put a note in
your diary right now to attend the Property Professional Show on May 17-18, PROPERTYdrum
is the Media Partner for this new event which has the same goal as we do in in this magazine –
‘Unifying An Industry’ – PPS is set to be the best property show in the UK, preliminary
information is in this issue and more detail will be in our March magazine and we hope you
will come to see us there.
If you have any comment or suggestions on what you would like to see in PROPERTYdrum
2010 we would be delighted to hear them, just email me, Sheila@propertydrum.com
