From the desk of the Editor
Happy New Year
By the time this issue of Rotorcraft Professional reaches your mailbox the year 2009 will have
come to a close. No argument, 2009 was not what one could term a banner year. By many stan-
dards it is quite a surprise that our industry has survived, to this point, without the fail-
ures we have seen in so many others. While orders for new aircraft were below those of
past years, the market for upgrades, rebuilds, and overhaul have remained very healthy.
Many owners and operators are reinvesting in their fleets vs. expanding. It is very en-
couraging that a few operators have managed to guide their companies through this
economic storm, and continued on their growth plan.
2009 was a very exciting year for us at Rotorcraft Professional magazine. I will be
the first to admit, our business plan was, to put it mildly, ambitious. We set down a plan
that we believed was realistic, measurable, and attainable. Funny enough, there were some who be-
Ron Whitney lieved we would not survive, much less grow. Well, we are very proud to announce that we not
Editor only met every goal we set for 2009, we exceeded them. Our two crowning achievements of 2009
were the launch of EMS Professional magazine, and the birth of Rotorcraft Professional Media Net-
Rotorcraft Professional and it’s newest additions,
and now operate as Rotorcraft Professional Media Network, or RPM Network
which brings forth a new and exciting media presence in the rotorcraft market. Growing our mag-
azine subscriber base from 25,000 to in excess of 58,000, establishing a weekly online newsletter
that reaches over 41,600 added to the #1 online rotorcraft resource on the planet, RPM Network is
clearly the #1 BPA audited resource, with the largest reach in the market, period.
A look ahead
We are excited about 2010. As we expand you can look for many new and innovative things
from the RPM Network. Lyn Burks, will soon be reporting from places far and wide, bringing in-
teresting and intriguing stories to you via the web. Together, Rotorcraft Professional magazine,, www.verticalreference,, www.helicopter-
salaries, and are the comprehensive package for professionals in the
rotorcraft industry.
Once again, I would like to thank you, our readers, advertisers and supporters. We could not be
more pleased with the reaction we have received from you all. We will continue to provide the level
of service you have come to enjoy and expect, every time!
Happy New Year,
