NUMBER 37 DECEMBER 2009
In My Opinion
A few months ago I wrote to the council
regarding the toilets in Well Hall Road (near St
Johns). These have been a real concern to the
nnsideside
council with graffiti, vandalism and inappropriate
behaviour. The result was a see-saw of opening
and closing the door as one faction after
REGULAR CONTRIBUTORS
another complained about the closure or Jane's Jottings 8
the behaviour.

The idea put to the council which has met
Historic Eltham 20
with reserved support is to
Personal Eltham - Adele Hartley 25
• Convert the existing women’s toilet in Well Hall Road (St Johns
Young Eltham St Olave's 29
Church) into to contact, tourist, booking and local arts contact
centre.
Natural Eltham 30
• Maintain the existing disabled toilets.
SPY - just spy stuff 33
• Convert the third building, now male toilets, into male and
female toilets
Mailbox - Your letters 37
• Create an Olympic Legacy – the original buildings, that is the Herbaceous 39
female and the disabled (which originally was a tram shelter)
will be 100 years old in 2012.
The contact/tourists centre would be staffed by volunteers who, as part
of their function, would oversee the healthy and polite use of the toilets.

The contact/tourists centre would be used to direct tourists who often
travel from Eltham station to Eltham palace on foot to other attractions

Overall, this appears to be a win / win situation for everyone with the
PO Box 24290, Eltham,
council benefiting from the toilets being managed and thereby reducing

if not eliminating, vandalism, anti social behaviour and promiscuous
