Admissions and Fees
Middle School 13+ and 14+ Entry
Pupils usually join the Middle School at 13+. A few
places may also be available at 14+. Entry is
normally through the Common Entrance
Examination taken at the candidate’s preparatory
school in June, or through the Oakham Scholarship
Examination. The expected pass mark in the
Common Entrance Examination is 55%.
Those who have not followed the Common
Entrance syllabus sit the School’s own Year 9
examination in January or by arrangement with
the Registrar. This examination consists of papers
in English, Mathematics, French and Science.
Past entrance papers are not released but a
syllabus is available.
There is no examination for members of the
Lower School entering the Middle School but it is
expected that their academic performance should
equate to 55% or better at Common Entrance.
Applicants whose first language is not English may
be required to take Oakham School’s English
Language test.
