Zip Launch – Wednesday 5th November 2008.
The last phase of the A3 Bus Priority Corridor between Portsmouth and Horndean was completed in August 2008. It was formally opened by Transport
Minister Paul Clark by re-launching Zip Service 41 on Wednesday 5th November 2008. This involved a presentation with Richard Soper (Managing Director,
First Hampshire & Dorset) at the Marriott Hotel, Northarbour, and a southbound journey down the route for invited guests, including Government officials
and officers from Hampshire County Council. Departure from the Marriott Hotel was at 1100 with Scania 65008 (YN54 NZD) leading 65009 (YN54 NZE), both
buses having Zip branding. Their destination equipment was specially programmed to show “Zip Launch Tour Bus 05.11.08”. A stop was made at Cosham
Health Centre for any guests unable to attend the presentation. Each bus set off separately to Horndean from where they travelled in convoy.
The route taken from the Marriott Hotel was Southampton Road, Northern Road, Hilsea Roundabout, A3(M), Horndean, Dell Piece East, Havant Road,
Horndean Precinct, London Road, Portsmouth Road, Cowplain, London Road, Waterlooville, London Road, Maurepas Way, St. George’s Walk, London Road,
Purbrook, London Road, Widley, London Road, Cosham, London Road, Northern Road, Cosham Health Centre, Northern Road, Hilsea Roundabout, Western
Road, Marriott Hotel.
The event was originally planned to include a display of the new Wright bodied Volvo B7RLE buses but their delivery has been postponed to April 2009.

Christmas Park & Ride in Portsmouth.
Once again First Hampshire & Dorset is operating this service for Portsmouth City Council. This year’s days of operation are Saturdays 29/11/08, 6/12/08,
13/12/08 and 20/12/08 and Sunday 30/11/08. Operation is shared between Hilsea and Hoeford using Scania OmniCity and Volvo B10BLE buses. The route is
the same as last year. The first weekend saw operation on both Saturday and Sunday for the Victorian Festival of Christmas at the Historic Dockyard.

Remembrance Day – Fareham.
Due to the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 9/11/08 in Fareham, Hartlands Road was closed to traffic between 1000 and 1200. Buses had to enter and
leave the bus station using what is normally just the exit. All West Street services were diverted via Western Way.
Remembrance Day – Gosport.
Due to the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 9/11/08 at the War Memorial, Bury Road was closed to traffic between 0900 and 1300. Bus services were
diverted as follows. 34 (to Fareham) & 72 (to Southampton) Diverted from Foster Road via Anglesey Road, Stokes Bay Road, Jellicoe Avenue and Privett
Road to Gomer Lane. 34 & 72 (to Gosport) Diverted from Privett Road via Jellicoe Avenue, Stokes Bay Road, Anglesey Road and Stoke Road to Walpole
Road.
82 (to Fareham) Diverted from Brockhurst Road via Ann’s Hill Road, Carnarvon Road, Gordon Road and Stoke Road to Walpole Road. 82 (to Gosport)
Diverted from Foster Road via Gordon Road, Carnarvon Road and Ann’s Hill Road to Brockhurst Road. 88A (to Fareham) Diverted from Foster Road via

Colas Ltd. patched the carriageway in Neville Road causing the road to be closed between 0915 and 1645 on Tuesday 4/11/08 and Wednesday 5/11/08. Bus
services were affected as follows. 13 (to City Centre) Diverted from Eastern Road via Hayling Avenue, Baffins Road, Milton Road and Copnor Bridge to New
Road. 14 (to Milton) Diverted from New Road via Copnor Bridge, Milton Road, Baffins Road and Hayling Avenue to Eastern Road. 19 (to North End) Not
affected. 19 (to City Centre) Diverted from Idsworth Road via Tangier Road, negotiate the turning circle near Portsmouth College, Tangier Road, Copnor
Bridge, Milton Road, Baffins Road and Hayling Avenue to Eastern Road.
Road Works in Fratton.
Utility works at the junction of Fratton Road and Arundel Street necessitated the use of temporary traffic lights with long delays and awkward access to
Arundel Street from Fratton Road. Work was done between 0830 and 1530 on Thursday 18/11/08 to Friday 22/11/08 and Monday 24/11/08 to Thursday
27/11/08. Bus services were affected as follows. 13 (City Centre – Baffins – City Centre) Not affected. 14 (City Centre – Baffins – City Centre) Diverted
from Fratton Bridge via Victoria Road North, Bradford Junction, Holbrook Road and Arundel Street to Station Street. 16 (City Centre – Eastney) Not
affected.
16 (Eastney – City Centre) Diverted from Fratton Bridge via Fratton Road, Lake Road, Holbrook Road and Arundel Street to Station Street. Further work
necessitated a lane closure at the same junction from 1930 on Tuesday 2/12/08 to 0500 on Wednesday 3/12/08 and from 1930 on Wednesday 3/12/08 to
0500 on Thursday 4/12/08. Bus services for these periods were affected as follows. 13A (City Centre – Milton) Diverted from Arundel Street via Holbrook
Road, Victoria Road North and Fratton Bridge to Goldsmith Avenue. 14A (Milton – City Centre) Not affected.
Road Works in Elkstone Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth.
Elkstone Road was closed for carriageway repairs from 0900 to 1600 on Sunday 9/11/08. This affected bus services as follows. 1 & 1C (to Southsea)
Diverted from Deerhurst Crescent via Woofferton Road and Allaway Avenue to Allaway Avenue Shops.
Road Works in Washbrook Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth.
Colas Ltd. resurfaced Washbrook Road at its junction with Allaway Avenue. Consequently this junction was closed between 0900 and 1600 on Thursday

Removal of Trees in North End, Portsmouth.
Some trees were removed from Gladys Avenue, which was closed between 0915 and 1545 from Monday 17/11/08 to Wednesday 19/11/08. Bus services were
diverted as follows. 6 (to Tipner) Diverted from London Road via Derby Road, Stamshaw Road, Rudmore Roundabout and Twyford Avenue to Walker Road.

Heavy Crane Operation in Nightingale Road, Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
Further construction work involving a heavy crane took place between 0600 and 1600 on Saturday 22/11/08 and Sunday 23/11/08. Bus services were
diverted as follows. Saturday 22/11/08 per Saturday 12/4/08. Sunday 23/11/08 per Sunday 27/4/08.
Road Works in Waterlooville.
Road works at the junction of St. George’s Walk and Maurepas Way on Wednesday 26/11/08 and Thursday 27/11/08 necessitated the following diversion.
41 (to Clanfield) Diverted from St. George’s Walk Maurepas Way (southbound) to circumnavigate the roundabout to reach Maurepas Way (northbound) to
London Road. 41 (to Portsmouth Not affected. No other services were affected.
Odd Workings.
Service 45A (Portsmouth – Denmead) is normally operated by Hilsea depot using two Optare Solos. However because only one was available on the morning
of Tuesday 2/12/08 Marshall bodied Dennis Dart 41643 (R643 TLM) was used.
