German specialist adds Abu Dhabi
Rob Gill. AN ABUDhabi specialist operator has been set up by the German Travel Centre to take advantage of the destination’s growing profile.
Abu Dhabi Travel Centre, which will sell through the trade, has started as an online operator but plans to launch a brochure “in due course”. Based in Pinner, Middlesex, it will concentrate on Abu Dhabi and other Gulf region destinations, such as Dubai and Oman, and will target the leisure and business travel market. Tahir Bhimani, Abu Dhabi Travel Centre’s
director, said the operator had been set up as Abu Dhabi was set to grow as a destination thanks to attractions such as the Ferrari World theme park, the Guggenheim and Louvre museums, and new upmarket hotels. “These attractions are going to place Abu Dhabi on the cultural traveller’s map,” he said.
Bhimani: capitalising on interest “We hope to capitalise on this
interest by offering great value packages and flights to holiday- makers and business travellers.” Abu Dhabi Travel Centre is
offering city breaks and tailor- made holidays to the emirate, and is starting business with discounts of up to 30% on selected hotels
alongside a lead-in air fare of £398 with Etihad. The operator will also be targeting the golf
market on the back of events such as the European PGA tournament, which takes place in January at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. It will operate under the German Travel Centre’s
Atol, which licenses it to carry 1,475 passengers per year. The company is also a member of Abta and the Advantage consortium. The lead-in price for a three-night break to Abu Dhabi is £569 per person, including return flights with Etihad and three nights at the five-star Desert Islands Resort & Spa.
Trafalgar follows flexible tour trend
TRAFALGAR TOURS has introduced a more “relaxed” option for holidaymakers who want to spend more time in destinations. The escorted tours operator has followed sister
operator Insight Vacations in offering more flexible tours, and its “At Leisure” programme will debut in its 2011 Worldwide brochure. The programme gives customers more free time to explore destinations with minimum stays of two to three nights, plus later starting times on travel days. Sales director Paul Melinis said: “This further
illustrates how evolved escorted touring has become – flexible, relaxed and no starts before 9am. These tours will appeal to past clients and future prospects and continue our commitment to providing travel agent partners with time- saving, commission-earning packages.”
