Bloggers go on a mini adventure
A group of European bloggers decided to travel to WTM in style this year – in classic Mini Coopers. A “blog trip”, organised by Andy Jarosz from
travel blog 501 Places, and travel website Tour- dust, received help from local businesses in St Albans, Hertfordshire to see the sights of the city. Guided tour company smallcarBIGCITY then
provided retro tours of London in three classic Mini Coopers before arriving at WTM. The bloggers on the trip were: Melvin Boucher,
Traveldudes; Isabelle Kenis, Isabelles Travel; Simon Falvo, Wild About Travel; Abigail King, Inside the Travel Lab; and Keith Jenkins, Velvet Escape. Jarosz said the participating firms would gain
from extensive exposure on the various blogs and social media channels, and also pick up links in return for their support on the bloggers’ websites. Read more about the trip at

■ Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has released a free iPhone and iPad app that allows users to review hotel information, explore destination guides and make or modify “real-time” reservations. Content is also available offline, so the app can work without signal coverage.

■ Sixt has launched an iPad app for its car hire customers. Using GPS, it shows locations of nearby petrol stations and hotels. It also allows users to review Sixt’s entire fleet.

flights.com, which recruits bloggers to write for its website, said it was useful for meeting people “on the edge of social media”. “As travel agents, we don’t usually get to talk with journalists, so this help breaks down the barriers,” he said. Lodge added that social media worked well for

round the world,” he said. “We’ve got compelling content. That’s what people are after, and that’s what we’ve got. Plus it has reduced our website’s bounce rate from about 40% to 20%. More people are staying on the website.” As well as DoubleTree by Hilton sponsoring the
evening, Flagship Consulting provided a special “Flagship cocktail” for guests, while NCL gave

away an iPad in a “Freestyle photo competition”. The Courthouse hotel is a former magistrate’s
court, and original features include the judge’s bench, witness stand and prison cells, which have been transformed into private areas in the bar. Mick Jagger famously appeared at the court in 1969 to defend himself over charges of cannabis possession.
