TEIDE NATIONAL PARK, TENERIFE.
Mount Teide is the highest peak on Spanish
territory at 3,718m, and is in the heart of
Las Canadas, the crater of an extinct volcano
in the centre of the island. Take a scenic
drive through pine forests and above cloud
level, and the barren beauty of the crater
stretches out before you. On a clear day you
can see the whole of the island from here,
and also the island of La Gomera. A parador
hotel makes a handy stop for lunch, and a
cable car takes you up to the summit of
Mount Teide.
