TEMECULA – Individuals were transformed into Spartan warriors as they partook in the SoCal Super Spartan Race that took place in Vail Lake on Jan. 28 and 29. Thousands of participants were

at the event, with members of Team Super Heroes also attending. All of the men who participated, related by family or workplace, hailed from North San Diego County. Twelve marines stationed at the Camp Pendleton base also participated in the sold out Jan. 28 event. The 8-mile long Vail Lake ob-

stacle course is part of the Spartan Race that is an international obsta- cle racing event. The Spartan race does more than prove to the world that the individuals participating in it are tough, as the race also raises funds for the non-profit organiza- tion Homes for Our Troops. vicemen and women to live more independently. The organization also raises donations of money, building materials, and profes- sional labor. The Jan. 29 event added a twist

to the usual event as it featured the option to have two-person team relays. Each member completed half of the course, and once both halves were completed, they were each awarded a finisher medal. The team with the fastest time won a special prize. The Spartan Race featured three

course levels: three-mile sprints with roughly a dozen obstacles; eight-mile Super Spartan with 15 or more obstacles; and 10-12 mile Beast Races. Spectators gathered around the

lake’s edge to witness the racers take on the courses obstacles and there was even a section where non-racers could partake in various challenges to test their endurance. The SoCal Super Spartan Race attracted individuals from far and wide and had racers pushing it to the limit while enjoying a sunny day at Vail Lake.
