Soccer tryouts to be held for youth of all ages TEMECULA – Barca Academy

Sunbelt League
Girls Basketball: Perris (15-6, 5-0) dominated Palo-
ma Valley (13-3, 4-1) 71-45 to claim sole lead of the Sunbelt League. They led at halftime by only eight points, 31-23. Despite extremely cold shoot- ing from the floor, the Panthers’ full court press strategy forced 45 turn- overs and allowed them to dominate the Wildcats on shot opportunities. Amiya Baker led the #1-ranked CIF- SS Division II-A team with 23 points, ten steals, eight rebounds, and eight assists. She had a triple-double last week against Lakeside: 13 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists. For Paloma Valley, Breanna Turner had 19 points, and Brandy Howard contributed 15, including three 3’s. Heritage (10-10, 3-3) edged out
Temescal Canyon (8-14, 2-4) 39- 38 after trailing by three points at halftime, 17-20. Heritage’s Jordyn Carroll hit five 3’s and led all scorers with 22 points. Janae Johnson led the Titans with 12 points and Stephanie Opp added 8, including two 3’s and 2-for-2 free throws. Elsinore (8-14, 3-3) defeated neighboring Lakeside (8-13, 0-6) 62-53. Lakeside’s Elisha Smith (16 points) and Raquel Dominick (13 points) led with two and four 3’s, respectively. But the big three for Elsinore combined for 43 points: Jordan Pendergrass (19 points, 15 rebounds), Victoria Sosa (13 points), and Rosie Rodriguez (11 points).
Boys Basketball: Perris (15-7, 4-1) defeated Paloma
Valley (9-13, 2-3) 60-55 to lay claim for second place in the league. Coming off of a 27-point (seven 3’s) performance against Elsinore, the Panthers’ 6’0” freshman guard Tristan Hunter scored 22, adding three more 3’s to bring his season total to 59. Teammates Devon Ware and Tyler Cooper added 12 more points each; Cooper also had three
blocks to bring his season total to 51 and 13 rebounds. He is the #7 rebounder in the area. The Wildcats reduced a thirteen point halftime deficit behind the play of Jacob Mina (13 pts, 3 3’s), Alfred Simpson (11 pts), Manny Sandoval (10 pts), and Chris Baca 8 pts, 2 3’s). Temescal Canyon (9-13, 2-4)
came from a two-point halftime deficit to defeat Heritage (5-15, 0-6) 41-39 behind the second-half heroics of Chima Wami (19 pts). Faced with double-team defense, Wami scored only four points, all from the charity stripe in the first half, but scored all six of his field goals in the second half, including the game-winning basket with 39 seconds left. Heritage hit six 3’s including two back-to-back to tie the game at 39-39 in the last two minutes. Mason Clements (9 pts) had three 3’s and Matt Bradshaw (8 pts) had two 3’s. Elsinore (20-3, 6-0) won the
second father-son rematch against Lakeside (13-9, 3-3) 64-54. Co-Head Coach Rick Wolter’s Elsinore Tigers withstood the barrage of three point- ers (seven) from his son Head Coach Ross Wolter’s Lancers and answered with seven of their own. For Elsinore, the area’s leading scorer, EJ Twyman (26.2 ppg avg), scored 30, including five three’s. The other half of the dynamic duo, Lawrence Chamber- lain, added 16 points (two 3’s) and 9 rebounds. Michael Christers (13 pts, 3 3’s), Tyler Jones (10 pts, 2 3’s), Daymond Green (8 pts, 2 3’s), and EJ Jackson (8 pts) carried the load for Lakeside.
Majestic League
Girls Basketball: Temecula Prep (12-7, 8-0) out-
played a mismatched Cornerstone (5-8, 3-7) 52-9. Brittany Janssen has scored 22 points in back-to-back games; including five three’s in the two games. Mikaela Vega added 12 points; Noel Adkins contributed 10
points, 8 rebounds, and four steals in the win. For Cornerstone, Cara Chivington had five points, three rebounds, and two steals; Maddie Alexander had three points, 11 re- bounds, and three steals.
Boys Basketball: Temecula Prep (12-7, 7-1) drove
to a 55-33 victory over Cornerstone (5-7, 3-6). For the Crusaders, 6’3” Terrance Harts scored 20 points, including three 3’s. He leads his team with 120 rebounds. Zack Daggett had 21 points (three 3’s), Jacob Moore had 16 points (two 3’s), and Jordan Santa Cruz added 11 points (three 3’s). Daggett now has 33 3’s on the season; Santa Cruz has 18.
Ambassador League
Girls Basketball: Linfield Christian (12-8, 6-4)
cruised to a win over Western Chris- tian (8-12, 2-8) 49-38 to solidify their position in 3rd place. Makenna Wesseln (12 pts) and Angela Brown (11 pts) led the Lions’ scoring. Sa- vannah Mears added 8 points and 5 rebounds. Calvary Murrieta (5-11, 2-8) de-
feated Woodcrest Christian (4-13, 0-10) 30-19 by doubling their oppo- nent’s score in the second half. The Lady Warriors led 9-8 at halftime, but outscored the Lady Royals 21- 11 down the stretch. Jessica Harris had 8 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Tabitha Howell added 5 points and 7 rebounds. Shannon Marcy and Keisha Onia both added 7 points; Jennifer Lombardi and Victoria Ritua added 5 each in the team victory.
Boys Basketball: Linfield Christian (18-3, 7-3) dominated Western Christian (3-16, 1-9) 81-59. Torin Webb (19 pts) and Daryl Morris (17 pts) had three 3’s each. Together, they were 6-of-9 from the arc and have 44 three’s on
the year. Dylan Weinmann added 14 and Matt Wilson contributed 10. Calvary Murrieta (3-14, 2-8) lost
to Woodcrest Christian (4-17, 1-9) 54-60 after leading the Royals 30-19 at halftime. Xavier Porchia led the Royals’ attack with 34 points. For the Warriors, Brody Myers had 16 points and Zach Chesser had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Abraham Capers scored eight points (including two 3’s) and led in rebounding with 13. Andrew Bigelow (8 pts) added two 3’s, Austin Daniels (8 pts) had a three and Caleb Watts pulled down 8 rebounds. De- spite a 43-24 advantage in rebounds, the Warriors 23 turnovers gave the Royals the opportunities they needed to win the game.
Southwestern League
Girls Basketball: Chaparral (14-6, 5-1) defeated
Vista Murrieta (12-11, 3-3) 57-48 behind a dominant 24-point game from Jessica Pino. The UCSB- bound senior also pulled down 11 rebounds, dished 8 assists, and added five blocks to her area-leading total (59). Teammate Abi Johnston added 16 points, six rebounds, and six as- sists. For the Broncos, leading scorer Serafina Maulupe added 19 points (including two 3’s and 5-of-6 FT’s) to her season total of 491. Murrieta Valley (17-5, 5-1) de-
feated Temecula Valley (11-12, 2-4) 76-60 with their top three players combining for 44 points and hold- ing TV’s leading scorer to 14 points. MV’s Karen Wolf had 17 (five more than her average), Brenda Bilton had 14 (six more than her average), and point guard Katie Clark added 13 (her average). Coming into this game, TV’s slashing guard Iman Lathan was leading the league with 22.3 points per game average and was held to just 14 points. Team- mate Kaitlin Mathewson hit five 3s and finished with 18 points to lead the Golden Bears. Paige Stroder

Murrieta Mesa (6-16, 0-6) 56-30 despite Mesa’s four three’s and a 14-pt effort by Shayd Bowers. GO’s Alexus Swanberg led the Wolfpack with 14 points. Great Oak led 28-12 at halftime.
Boys Basketball: Chaparral (16-7, 2-4) defeated Vista Murrieta (12-9, 4-2) in a close contest 54-51. The Pumas’ Eddie Coyle lit up the scoreboard for a season-high 26 points, including 6 3’s and 4-of-4 free throws. He shot 50 percent from the floor. The Broncos’ Davin Guinn put up 18 points, including two 3’s. Murrieta Valley (19-2, 5-1) de-
feated Temecula Valley (14-8, 2-4) 72-54 despite five 3’s by TV. Anthony Gonzales led the Golden Bears with 15 points; but the duo of Reid Shack- elford (22 pts) and Darius Butler (17 pts) and 51 percent shooting from the floor was too much for the Bears. This was Shackelford’s ninth 20+ point game; he is #5 in the Inland Empire for 3’s at 62. Butler added ten rebounds. Great Oak (14-8, 2-4) defeated Murrieta Mesa (15-8, 3-3) 72-60. Nathan Wright’s six field goals and 6-for-6 free throws led the Rams’ scoring; Braxton Smith tallied 14; Shane Staton scored 13 and Khalil Sharpe added eleven. Great Oak guard Heesup Lee raised his 5.1 points per game average by scoring 13, including two 3’s. Aaron Roedl added two more 3’s to his season total of 56 (ranked #9 in the IE) as he scored 22 points on the night to lead all scorers. Justin Sadler had his ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and ten rebounds. He also added three more blocks to bring his total to 30.
