FEATURE Labour leadership

Help shap Britain

Take part in the Labour leader debate

Over the coming weeks and months Labour members and supporters will choose the candidate who Labour wants to be the UK’s next prime minister.

Now that the process for electing Labour’s leader is underway, Unite urges all members who are eligible to vote in this crucial election. For the Labour Party to be truly representative of society, it has to have a strong trade union voice.

It is important that we make our voice heard on policy issues that matter to our families, our workplaces and our communities.

“This is your chance to determine who leads the Labour Party and to help shape what it stands for and the sort of nation we want modern Britain to be,” said Unite political director, Anneliese Midgely.

Get involved

Unite members who have signed up and have been accepted as individual affiliated supporters of the Labour Party are able to vote. The deadline for registering to participate in the leadership election was August 8.

But even if you are not signed up to vote you can still get involved.

During the leadership election the two candidates, Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith, will take part in a series of live debates organised by the Labour Party and media outlets.

For the first time and unlike previous contests, these events will be available for everyone to watch. No matter where you are in the country you’ll be able to hear what the candidates have to say as the debates happen.

Labour member or interested viewer alike, you’ll be able to watch the Labour Party debates live – on your computer, smart phone, ipad and TV.

And if you are a Labour member or supporter you’ll be able to submit a question. The moderator will select questions to put to the candidates – just visit the website www.labour.org.uk/debates to submit yours.
