Electrical Motion - an electrically driven ultrasonic welding machine with a working frequency of 20 kHz. The company says the machine allows joining process parameters to be regulated individually and precisely, from the positioning of the sonotrode and the applied welding force to the welding rate. This results in improved welding, punching, cutting or sealing of moulded thermoplastic parts. The welding machine is equipped with an industrial PC that can be operated via a 12-inch touchscreen. The welding process is triggered by an ergonomic two-hand operation and applications are said to include demanding joining operations in automotive construction, medical technology, packag- ing, and domestic appliances.
Technical welding Rinco says the Electrical Motion is a further develop- ment of its Dynamic 3000 ultrasonic welding machine (also with a working frequency of 20 kHz), which was designed particularly for techni- cally-demanding welding operations for medium to large-sized thermoplastic parts. Unlike the earlier compressed air-driven design, in which the
feed for the sonotrode returns after every weld cycle to the starting position in the pneumatic cylinder, the starting position with the Electrical Motion can be freely selected. Consequent- ly, the weld cycle can often be shortened, depending on

the geometry of the object to be welded. The welding mode can also be freely selected. A total of eight modes are available for this: from time, distance and energy-related modes, to a combination of time and energy and a mode for presetting the melting rate. For all welding modes, the ultrasonic trigger can be adjusted as force, distance, time or as an external signal. The actual welding process can, depending on the welding mode, be subdivided into up to ten
steps so the welding process can be controlled far more accurately than with a pneumatic drive. This allows a speed-dependent or force-dependent weld profile to be achieved and, according to the company, results in a much improved weld quality. It claims that parts that were previously almost impossible or very difficult to weld can now be joined reliably with a reproducible and uniform weld seam. The converter, booster and sonotrode are identical in construction to the pneumatic Dynamic 3000 series, which means that jigs and equipment already made for this machine can also be used without modification. New from Sonotronic is the EcoFlex series of
compact welding booths. These can be adapted to customer requirements for ultrasonic welding of small and medium-size components where several welding operations have to be prepared in parallel or in sequence. The company says that EcoFlex units fit into its product portfolio between the Eco iSonic standard ultrasonic machines and the company’s special machines. The concept of the new series is based on a compact, standard basic machine with pre-defined electrical and mechanical components. Contract implementation simply requires the construction of an individual work room, which makes short delivery times possible. Vertical lifting units or small horizontal sliding tables can be incorporated to improve accessibility. Optimal heating or infrared elements are also available.
