production of LFT materials

says Frank Kavanagh, vice president of sales for Maguire Products. “Throughout the industry it has generated substantial savings in material costs and increases in product quality. In combination with control systems and software developed by Maguire, the blender has also made advanced capabilities readily accessible to a wide range of processors, including lot-to-lot accountability and documentation, extrusion yield control, and factory automation.” This combination of ease of use and powerful

capabilities is reflected in a new logo tagline that Maguire is introducing this year – Intelligent Simplicity. ❙ www.maguire.com

Motan Colortronic will use Chinaplas to show the progress it has made in integration of the former Motan and Colortronic product lines. The key focus of its display will be on its Metro G range of material loaders, originally a Motan product line but which can now be fully integrated into existing Colortronic systems. The Metro G uses a modular building block approach

that allows users to configure and create the optimal material loader for any application. Different sizes of material inlets can be matched exactly to material throughputs and conveying distances and are now offered in addition to the various different material loader volumes. For example, modules with a tangential material inlet that operate with a cyclone effect are available for materials with difficult separation behaviour. Customers can also choose between different vacuum valves, allowing a standard unit to be upgraded to a clean room version with a special membrane vacuum valve. A dedusting module is available for fine dust removal at the end of the conveying process where there is a particularly high demand for material quality. The company will also show its new Miniblend V

synchronous dosing unit, which combines Colortronic mechanicals with Motan controls. The volumetric dosing and mixing unit is designed to handle free and normal flowing materials and is said to be well suited for use

with translucent and opaque components. It is suitable for injection moulding and extrusion applications, according to the company. Miniblend units provide good recipe accuracy and

reproducibility. The additive is gravity fed into the inlet of the processing machine through a Y-shaped mixing throat, which is said to prevent material buildup and bridging. www.motan-colortronic.com

ProTec Polymer Processing’s focus at this year’s Chinaplas will be on production of long-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) by pultrusion. ProTec’s LFT technology is suitable for producing a

wide range of materials with differing levels of fibre reinforcement and different polymer matrix materials, which may also be directly compounded during LFT manufacture. A keystone of the line is a high-perfor- mance compounding extruder equipped with a Somos Gramix S gravimetric dosing system capable of accurately dosing and mixing up to nine components. As a result, a very wide range of individual formulations of the polymer matrix can be produced very flexibly directly in the process, including recycled materials. ProTec can design and supply complete turn-key

lines capable of handling fibre contents of up to 60 wt% and throughputs of up to 1,200 kg/h. Any conventional thermoplastics or even biopolymers such as PLA (polylactic acid) can be used as the matrix, while glass, steel or carbon fibres can be used as the reinforcing fibres.

The company will also display its latest generation of

ProTec tumble reactors. These SSP (solid-state post-condensation) reactors are designed to upgrade the properties of flowable plastics such as PET, PBT, PEN, PA6 and PA6.6. ❙ www.sp-protec.com
