according to show organiser Adsale Exhhibition Services. Chinaplas attracts a signifi cant international

attendance. Close to 30% of the 128,000 people that attended the Chinaplas show in Guangzhou last year came from outside of China. Attendance at the most recent Shanghai edition in 2014 was 130,370 (the annual show alternates between Guangzhou and Shanghai) with a similar international share. The Chinese economy has weakened in 2015 and the

outlook is for continuing weak growth during 2016. But the country remains very much a manufacturing powerhouse and a key market for plastics. China is also an important plastics and rubber machinery manufacturing nation. Figures compiled by the European plastics and rubber machinery associa- tion Euromap estimate China’s production of plastics and rubber machinery amounted to a value of €10.8bn in 2014 or 33.4% of global production. And the country’s machinery exports amounted to €2.5bn, equivalent to

Data from the plastics and rubber machiney division of Germany’s VDMA trade association showed global exports of plastics and rubber machinery to China amounted to a value of €2.45bn in 2014. The Chinese plastics machinery market has been

impacted by the country’s slowing economic growth - German machinery exports to China declined by 19% from €809m in 2014 to €653m in 2015, for example. However, many overseas machinery producers are ramping up their production in China and will be using Chinaplas to show their latest locally-built introductions.
