MICHAEL
afternoon, all the buildings reflect on the street. I love how the ground becomes a giant mirror,” Michael explained. Part of the joy of traveling is the experience of hoping and planning for the next trip. Some people collect postcards and photos of places as travel goals to reach for. Flohr looks forward to the day when he can travel to the windy city of Chicago, witness the bustling bar scene of Boston, and travel far to the golden city of Prague. “I like traveling because of the unknowns of a place. I particularly like the unknown when it comes to language,” he said. “It is fun to put together the puzzle of communicating.” As his family has grown, it is a rarity to get to travel often, but it makes him excited to figure out opportunities to go. He enjoys painting far-off places in the meantime, as if the paintings are tiny steps toward reaching the goal when he can truly experience and capture those places fully in his work. Flohr wants this series of work to be like looking at a photograph through an old viewfinder toy. “I hope people lose themselves in the gallery of places they’ve been or want to go.” He will be creating small works to evoke a sense of nostalgia and eagerness for travel, and perhaps inspiration for new larger works to be created as companion pieces. You can see Michael Flohr’s
“Postcards From Around The World” series June 24-26th at the EC Gallery Seaport Village location. Please contact your fine art consultant to RSVP.
