KNOWN as the Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla Perez’s contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most cel- ebrated Mexican-American tainers of the late 20th century
prior to her tragic death at age 23. This May, Corpus Christi is pulling out the red carpet to honor Selena’s life and legacy with a weekend extravaganza of Grammy-winning Tejano acts, food trucks offering local and regional flavors, international artisan vendors, kids’ activities and a grand finale complete with fireworks. The festival made its debut last year in honor of the 20th anniversary of Selena’s death, drawing 50,000 fans from all over the world. This year’s iteration is expected to be even
bigger, showcasing performers like Chris Perez, Selena’s widower who’s also a rock musician; Los Dinos member Pete Astudillo; and La Mafia. The fanfare takes place along the beau- tiful Corpus Christi Bay at North Bayfront Park, and tickets cost $10 for a single day or $15 for a two-day pass.
