T

he captivating work of Henry Asencio marries the abstract with the feminine, combining the two to create moving paintings of passion.

Most often capturing the mystique and beauty of the female form in his work, Asencio creates a drama before the viewer’s eyes, with bold use of color and texture juxtaposed

with the softness of the female figure. “I want people to feel what I am doing, not just see what I am painting,” he said. Internationally acclaimed as one of the most important figurative artists of our time, Asencio’s work blends classical figurative painting with abstract, contemporary back- grounds, creating a dynamic between the im- material and spiritual world and that of our waking reality.

“[I am] more concerned with creating a mood and pushing the aesthetic rather than achieving a true likeness as the ultimate end.” Working primarily with the richness of oil on canvas, Asencio translates his passion into works of elegance and beauty, using his own signature style to explore spirituality, sensuality and the duality of living. “Nothing inspires me more intensely than the female form,” he said.

In his latest exhibit, Asencio showcases

“Women of the World,” a collection that celebrates the diverse ethnicities and cultures of women from across the globe. The collection can be viewed at EC Gallery Breckenridge January 8-10th.
