Jaynes-Provisor scored a turn in the closing seconds to defeat Azerbaijan’s Irina Petr Netreba 4-4 on criteria to earn her first career medal. It was the third World appearance for the 34-year-old Jaynes- Provisor.

“Part of me knows that I was able to do it, but it’s just surreal,” Jaynes-Provisor said. “I don’t know how to explain it. It's an unbeliev- able experience to have come this far in such a short period of time. “It's pretty incredible, and it's a testament of all the amazing people behind me. It’s an amazing feeling, and I’m very grateful for everyone who believed in me.”

American Robby Smith didn’t win a medal, but he turned in a memo- rable and inspiring performance in placing fifth in the Greco-Roman competition at heavyweight. Down seven points and one point from losing by technical fall, Smith fought back courageously and had the U.S. crowd on its feet before dropping a hard-fought 10-8 decision to three-time World freestyle champion Bilyal Makhov of Russia.

"It was a great match," Smith said. "I gave up points early and had to battle back. This is the best I've ever done.”

The U.S. qualified five weight classes for the 2016 Olympics Games – two in men’s freestyle, two in Greco-Roman and one in women’s freestyle. Three more Olympic qualifying events remain in the 2016 season, where the USA can compete for more Olympic berths.
