DIGGING FOR APPS Betsi Flint

Rookie pro shares some of her favorites

etsi Flint has enjoyed quite a ride since graduating from Loyola Marymount University in early May. First she teamed with Sarah Sponcil to fi nish second in the pairs division of the AVCA Collegiate Sand National Champi- onships held in Gulf Shores, Alabama, in May, losing to Uni- versity of Southern California’s Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes in the fi nals. Flint and Sponcil won two of six battles with the heralded team from Southern California.

Flint then teamed with Kelley Larsen (Pepperdine Univer- sity) at the Pan Am Games in Toronto July 13-21, placing fi fth with an overall record of 5-1. The pair turned its attention to the AVP Tour, where it became the youngest team in the tour’s history to win an event. They went 5-0 at the AVP Cincinnati Open over Labor Day Weekend. The duo had a combined age of 46 years, 4 months and 27 days.

One week later Flint and Larsen defeated beach legend Misty May-Treanor and Brittany Hochevar in the winner’s bracket of the AVP Championships in Huntington Beach, Cali- fornia.

All told, Flint went 17-9 in six AVP events in 2015, pocket- ing $17,000 in earnings.
