Trelleborg’s latest generation of infl atable pipe plugs has played a key role in maintain- ing sewage and drainage infrastructure in one of western China’s fastest growing cities, Chengdu. The capital of Sichuan

province, Chengdu is among China’s largest and most dynamic cities and has been considered a showcase for the rapid development of the country’s once-impoverished western regions. The city has attracted world-class compa- nies to set up operations in industrial parks and in satellite cities such as Pi County, which boasts a population of around 480,000 people and has become a hot spot for investment by electronics and high-tech manufacturers. IN-FIELD APPLICATION Portable induction units

Ajax TOCCO Magnethermic recently delivered a number of 5/10kW TOCCOtron AC induction heating systems to an customer requiring a portable, on-site preheating system.

According to Ajax TOCCO,

the customer selected the TOCCOtron units over larger 35kW induction equipment due to the signifi cantly lower cost and good performance - the simple, robust units are

capable of heating 50kg of steel to a temperature of 200˚C within 30 minutes. TOCCOtron pre-heat units

are suitable for use in pipe weld pre-heating, coating curing, coating removal and shrink sleeve fi tting applica- tions. Features of the air-cooled units include controlled cooling rates and high penetration. The high-frequency induction heating cables can be confi gured for round, fl at or irregular surfaces and no tools are required for installation and use.  www.ajaxtocco.com

32 PIPELINE COATING | September 2015

Facilities Administration Offi ce has been using Trelleborg pipe plugs as part of its pro- gramme of sewage testing, repair and replacement. Zhang Linwu, director of the Drainage Facilities Administration Offi ce, says the

all-around reliabil- ity of the new

generation of infl atable pipe plugs from Trelleborg Offshore & Construction has served Pi County well. “We’ve been using Trelleborg pipe plugs for more than a year now, and we’re very pleased with the results,” he says. Trelleborg’s infl atable pipe plugs use Optimised Fiber Technology (OFT), which employs highly automated manufacturing technology and high performance aramid fi bre

reinforcement. This results in high levels of safety and opera- tion, says Trelleborg, as well as a 35% weight saving.

Weight is a critical consid-

eration, the company says, as the lighter the pipe plug the easier it is for a worker to handle and install in tight manholes and pipes (tradi- tional pipe plugs weigh around 52kg while Trelleborg’s OFT pipe plugs weigh 35kg). OFT

pipe plugs are also said to be more

fl exible and easier to compress, while tapered ends make installation in smaller

sewage pipes much easier. In China, private and

public sector clients demand a high degree of service. Zhang says Trelleborg’s authorised China supplier has exceeded the level of support Pi County required, which is a crucial factor in developing customer loyalty and word-of-mouth branding in China.

“All in all, everything’s

been very reliable. I person- ally feel the after-sales service and product quality are exceptional.”  www.trelleborg.com
