What are the most popular products? Shaſts and grips. We have over 16,000 shaſts on the shelves, for example, and 42,000 grips. Clubheads, mainly from Tom Wishon Golf Technology, are also popular.


And the biggest order?


We get regular orders from Pro’s setting up a new workshop which run into several thousands of pounds made up of shaſts, clubheads, workshop machinery like loſt and lie machines, swing weight scales etc. We also don't have a minimum order value - the smallest one we've ever received was for a single ferule costing 18 pence!


Which countries do you deliver to? We can deliver to any country in the world. The majority of our business is UK based, but we see overseas growth every year, particularly in northern Europe. Export sales account for 40% of our business.


What are the biggest changes in your business since it formed in 1978? The move away from wooden club heads and the upkeep they required all stopped with the advent of modern metal clubheads. And this has changed the role of the Pro - it's more about custom- fitting and specific club making now, rather than clubhead repair.

How do young, or first-time Pros learn the art of clubmaking and club fitting? Is it a dying art?


There's actually a big demand for it and towards the end of the year we will be introducing a new series of Golf Schools to provide training for Pros and general assistance in club making/fitting - whether for first-timers or those who want a refresher. We're determined to make sure all this expertise continues to be passed down from generation to generation.


DIAMOND STAFF The senior team at Diamond is packed with experience.


Daren Treacy: Owner and MD joined the company on a YTS scheme 32 years ago, although he’d been working in the workshop and office in school holidays for some years before leaving school! Became partner in the business at the age of 21 and learned everything from his father Chris. Spent time with Tom Wishon learning club fitting and club making.


Alan Peskett: An ex-Royal Navy Falklands veteran, Alan joined Diamond in 1990 when he was offered a job after Chris Treacy read about this injured ex serviceman and Falklands hero struggling to find work. He started in the workshop making and fitting clubs and running teaching seminars for Pros alongside Chris Treacy. He is now Operations Director, overseeing the day to day smooth-running of the company.


Colin Lord: Sales Director with 20 years' service. He held previous roles in the golf industry and Colin was the founder and organiser of the first ever trade golf show. He’s never worked in the workshop, so doesn't claim to be a technical expert - but he IS the man for sales and customer service.


Doug Holmes:Has been with Diamond for 19 years. A master club fitter and maker, he runs teaching courses on club fitting and making. Doug spent time at the Ben Hogan factory in the US to learn how clubs should be assembled, according to the guidelines laid down by Hogan himself. He also spent time learning from Tom Wishon in Durango, Colorado.


Gary Tester: Has 21 years' service and is Diamond's Purchasing Manager. He started in the workshop making clubs and club fitting.


Liz Houston: Accounts/Office Manager has been with Diamond for 12 years and knows the business inside and out.
