BEST SELLERS

What the retailers had to say about April 2015

“Not a day goes past without a pair of Skechers ‘Go Walks’ being sold. We’re only a small shop, but Skechers has taken a large slice of sales. We put that down to their TV advertising. We have ladies, young and old, coming in for them, also older people who have problems with their feet, as they are seamless and so soft. So, when someone comes in looking just for that we show them the rest of the range, explain about the structure of the shoe - and the fact that we sell children's too. Then, they’re hooked! We were hesitant about taking on Camper for little people, as the price is fairly steep, but the name sells itself. If parents have had Camper they understand the quality and benefits. It’s our best seller for boys. We’re loving the school shoe range.” Michelle Lane, Soles with Heart, West Malling, Kent

“Trade a little better in April, marginally up on last year figures, some ladies Ankle Boots selling (at full price), however we need warm and sunny weather to help kick start summer merchandise.” Bernard O’Brien, LUKE O’BRIEN SHOES, Tuam, Co. Galway, Eire.

“April has been our best month ever. Fantastic gains on Josef Seibel and ARA sales, plus stunning sales from a new brand to our shop, Skechers. All in all a great month.” Steve White, White & Son Shoes, Sidmouth, Devon.

“Trade for the early part of April was good due to more settled warm weather, which help seasonal ranges, but tailed off as the weather changed, our trade is so weather driven. So it’s prayer mats out and hope for the Sunshine to reappear.“ Andrew Roberts, David Roberts, Llandudno, North Wales.

“When the weather is sunny and warm trade is excellent. Trade in April was ok, a small increase on last year, satisfactory, as it was quite cold here in Norfolk. May started well as the sun out on several occasions, so here’s hoping for a good warm summer. Note of caution to footwear only suppliers as Clothing brands, offering footwear as a total lifestyle look doing quite well. Great merchandising support, no minimum quantities , a deal of replenishment stock, clothing margins (2.7-3.00 times cost )and looking good value . Obviously, the strong pound against the Euro making a difference, with suppliers using that advantage to partly pass on to UK customers”. Roger Hare, Middletons, Norwich.
