Welcome to The Caterer’s celebration of the 2015 Moët UK Sommelier of the Year competition.

The competition is the ultimate benchmark of a sommelier’s skills and knowledge. No wonder, then, that its list of winners reads as a roll-call of the country’s greatest exponents of wine service. Finalists are put through a gruelling series of tasks designed to test their palate, wine knowledge and appreciation, communication and service skills and ability to perform under pressure. It’s this exacting blend of exercises that makes winning the competition such a massive achievement. I’d like to offer my congratulations to all 12 of our finalists for their success this year. As the non-judging host of this year’s competition, I was of

course especially thrilled to see my colleague Tanguy Martin triumph. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at Moët & Chandon and all our other sponsors, Tanguy will enjoy a package of mentoring, learning and tools that will stand him in good stead as his career develops. This has already commenced in the form of an educational trip to Épernay that he and his fellow finalists enjoyed in May, courtesy of Moët. Most of all, though, he’ll cherish the award itself, because

of what it represents. Tanguy now takes his place among the UK’s greatest sommeliers. His success makes him an exemplar, someone whose achievements other sommeliers can aspire to. I’d like to offer my thanks to the Academy of Food & Wine

Service, The Caterer, Moët & Chandon and all our other sponsors for supporting this important competition. We look forward to receiving your nominations for the 2016 Moët UK Sommelier of the Year competition.
