AGRIMATCO PROVIDES PRODUCTS AND EDUCATION IN A GROWING REGION

R

ECOGNIZING THAT THE AGRICULTURAL industry has and will continue to change dramatically and rapidly, Amman, Jordan-based Agrimatco (AMC) works to make sure its employees, facilities and customers are up to date on the latest information.

New technologies, mechanization, increased chemical use, specialization and government policies that favored

maximizing production have all contributed to enormous increases in food productivity. To be successful, Agrimatco invested in a variety of programs to make sure the company can serve customers’ needs and meet their expectations. Agrimatco provides insecticides, fungicides, seed and fertilizer products to customers along with consulting services

to ensure those products are being used properly and efficiently. Through the company’s retail shop, employees sell directly to farms and farmers. The shop also serves as a base from where the company can provide technical support and advice to farmers. One challenge Agrimatco’s representatives must deal with is educating customers on the dangers of counterfeit prod-

ucts. The company actively and aggressively battles against counterfeit products and illegal trade. AMC takes the ex- tra step when it obtains samples of illegal products by sending them to the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Trade for tracking. It also places advertisements warning growers and traders against the use of such products, publishes lit- erature distinguishing the difference between the original product and illegal ones, and conducts seminars explaining how illegal products can harm crops. It’s also important for farmers to understand the latest products and how to best use them. That’s why AMC works

continually with customers conducting technical seminars. Training sessions include everything from pesticide applica- tion techniques and safety to disease and pest identification. In an effort to reach as many customers as possible, AMC also publishes ARAR FARMERS magazine. The magazine

includes many articles about all areas of agriculture. Agrimatco recognizes that sustainable agriculture is garnering increasing support and acceptance within main-

stream agriculture. Not only does sustainable agriculture address many environmental and social concerns, but it offers innovative and economically viable opportunities for growers and consumers. — Dan Jacobs RESPONSIBLE USE
