FIELDREPORT Onthe I
’ve been a fan of ‘wrap’ grips most of my golfing life, so when Lamkin brought out their latest range I was keen to try one.
The journey to try my first Lamkin grip began
on the website. Lamkin, like other grip manufacturers, have taken proper grip fitting very seriously, from being able to try the different grips in a Pro’s shop from one of their impressive displays, to entering measurements into their Golf Grip Size Selector on
www.lamkin.co.uk. Aſter entering the relevant measurements and being told which grip size is the optimum for you – undersize, standard, midsize or oversize - you are taken to another screen that asks you to enter what type of conditions you normally play in – Dry, Combo or Wet. What follows is a choice of grip ‘surface texture’, going from ‘light’ which gives a more comfortable and tackier feel, to ‘heavy’, giving more traction promoting slip free connection with the club. Grip material is next, giving a choice from soſt to

This month Richard Punyer reviews Lamkin’s Utx Wrap Grip in All Blue
grips across their range which most closely resemble your given choices. This was the first time I had even remotely got
feedback to the hands. The UTx Wrap has performed exceptionally well over a number of rounds and differing weather conditions and I would recommend it as a ‘go to’ grip if you’re looking to change.
Verdict Lamkin have many grips to cater for all
into ‘grip fitting’ so I was surprised to find I measured at midsize. I chose the UTx wrap from my available options, and had my Pro fit them. The first thing I noticed on swinging was how much thicker the midsize is from the standard. Immediately this had an impact on my hand action as I have a tendency to have a slightly ‘flicky’ action through impact – the thicker grip lessened my hand action to the point I wasn’t concerned about the flick, just about releasing the clubhead correctly. Playing the UTx wrap is an altogether
pleasant experience. The inlaid cord is moisture wicking so takes all the slippiness out of your hands on hot days, while also providing great traction during wet rounds. Feedback through the grip from the strike is
very solid while also dampening some of the vibration caused by off centre hits. Feedback
types of golfer, individual preferences of size, feel and predominant playing conditions. The range is truly impressive and the availability of the grip fitting feature, both in pro’s shops and online, ensure you should always have the correct size for your hands.
