safety, found a local range and saw a fl yer for the local club. Guess he thought he might as well take me and my brother so we could learn to shoot too,” she said. “Turns out it was a competitive league – which I thought was cool – and I just stuck with it. I started with sporter shooting and did that for a while, but then after a couple years, I graduated from that to international-style precision shooting. It was kind of a goal that I could shoot that


someday. It was a lot of fun and I could beat the boys and I liked that. At fi rst it was something I did once or twice a week because I danced a lot though high school. I was just kind of switching it up from the traditional girly stuff.” Fast forward eight years


later and she’d probably still beat the boys – Black’s score at the Winter Selec- tion Match for Women’s Three-Position Rifl e (591) was just one shy of a world record. She’s competed in the NCAA Rifl e National Championships for three years on one of the top rifl e teams in the country, was named an All-American this year, as well earned a spot on the USA Shooting National Team where she shot her fi rst ISSF World


Cup in Changwon, South Korea. She will shoot two more World Cups later this year, one in Fort Benning, Georgia and one in Munich, Germany. Between her col- lege studies and shooting, Black has been kept pretty busy this year, but that doesn’t faze her. “All I can do is my best, get through these, then
