Paralympic Team Starts World Cup Season, Competes in Great Britain, Poland & Germany


Five U.S. Paralympic


Shooting Team athletes re- cently competed at the In- ternational Paralympic Com- mittee (IPC) Shooting World Cup event in Szczecin, Po- land, with the highlight put forth by McKenna Dahl earn- ing a silver medal along with a team bronze medal in P1 Men’s Air Pistol. Dahl (Arlington, Washing-


ton, pictured) earned the medal in the non-Paralympic event of Falling Target. The 18-year-old also fi nished 10th in the R5 Prone Mixed Air Rifl e event with a score of 529.9, which was a new per- sonal best and left her just .9 points out of the Final. She was also 12th in the R4 Mixed Standing Air Rifl e competition. The Men’s Air Pistol team

Esparza (Cupertino, Califor- nia) earned the team bronze medal. Individually, Tagliapi- etra was 11th overall, while Tichenor fi nished 14th and Esparza, 21st. John Joss (USAMU/Corsi-


cana, Texas) fi nished 17th in the R3 Prone Mixed Air Rifl e event.


Prior to this World Cup,


Tagliapietra, Tichenor, Es- parza and Joss kicked off the World Cup season at Stoke Mandeville, Great Brit- ain. Joss was the highest fi n- isher for the U.S. team in the R3 event. Following Poland, Ta-


gliapietra earned a bronze medal at ISCH on April 27 in P3 in Hanover, Germany. Tagliapietra would shoot the second-best qualifi cation score of 569 but would have to settle for bronze behind two Chinese athletes. Joss just missed making Finals in R6, fi nishing 2.7

as tune-ups for the impor- tant Paralympic qualifi ca- tion World Cups later this season. The U.S. Paralympic Shooting Team has earned two of 12 possible Paralym- pic quotas thus far during


the 2014 IPC World Champi- onships. Tagliapietra earned one of the country quotas in P3 25m Mixed Sport Pis- tol while Dahl did so as well in R4. Individuals still have to qualify to compete at the 2016 Paralympic Games even if they earned a coun- try quota.
