AR TIS T

alifornia artist Steven Quartly has made his mark in art by portraying a romantic view of life upon the canvas. Finding infinite inspiration in his many travels, Quartly paints intimate scenes with bright bold colors and exquisite detail. He is able to express the romance of life in every brushstroke. Inspired by the great impressionists, Quartly can be found outdoors or en plein air where he can best capture the relationship between color and light. In his artistic process, he works to capture a fleeting moment by placing colors strategically and allowing them to blend naturally when viewed. Although Quartly is known for his colorful oil paintings, he is skilled in many mediums. He has recently created a new

color, color, color,” he said. “This is the exact opposite.”

Black and white charcoal works have a rich and romantic history. Many masters such as Rembrandt, da Vinci, Dalí, and Picasso worked

with charcoal, creating timeless works that now hang in museums.

“I have found a way to produce a charcoal in my style,” he said. “Now I have collectors that are adding this to their current collection.” The approach with a great artist’s work is a pure representation of the artist’s ideas or emotions. Artist Steven Quartly is finding that he is able to communicate what moves him with or without color. His art reveals his love of the romance of life. ECG Seaport Village will host a one-man show with artist Steven Quartly March 20 through 22, 2015. RSVP at (800) 599-7111.

"The raw, organic thing about art is that it’s handmade in America and that is something that we’ve lost with the quick trip to Wal-Mart. I take a lot of joy in knowing that it’s handmade and I’m thinking about the piece from the very beginning to the very end."
