Tilelli presented the 2014 Auxiliary Liaison Excellence Award to Eleanor Layman, auxiliary liaison for the Fort George G. Meade (Md.) Chapter and the Maryland Council of Chapters. The Miramar (Calif.) Chapter was


recognized as the Top-Recruiting Chapter of the Year, having re- cruited and retained more than 400 members. Lt. Cmdr. Henry “Bud” Lichtenstern Jr., USN (Ret), Mira- mar Chapter membership chair, was named Chapter Recruiter of the Year. Thanks to his leader- ship, the chapter’s recruiting team signed up more than 125 new chapter members, and about 33 percent of the chapter’s regular membership now is 55 or younger. The event con-

Roundtable discussion The next morning, council and chap- ter leaders attended a roundtable session. Ryan kicked off the session by thanking those present for con- tinuing to serve their nation through their councils and chapters. “Servant leadership is what makes

Leaders from the Maryland Coun- cil of Chapters and Virginia Council of Chapters (VCOC) also held quar- terly council meetings, where they addressed managerial issues and discussed 2015 state legislative objec- tives. Council and Chapter Affairs Deputy Director Col. Brian Anderson, USAF (Ret), led a leadership work- shop during the Maryland Council of Chapters’ meeting. During the VCOC meeting,


Tilelli presented longtime Central Virginia Chapter leader Col. Henry R. Shelton, USA (Ret), with the Chairman’s Award to recognize his 25-plus years of service to MOAA and its affiliates. VCOC President Col. Victoria Revilla, USA (Ret), also presented Shelton with the council’s first-ever President’s Award. Leaders also participated in ben- efits information and legislative workshops and attended the annual meeting of the membership and a salute to caregivers of wounded servicemembers at the Community Heroes Award Night.
