Confi rmand Aubrey Coutts stands next to Mark Rossman, pastor of Living Water Lutheran Church, Scotts- dale, Ariz., during the Luther Rose mosaic’s dedica- tion on Reformation Sunday.

Ten feet in diam- eter, the vibrant Luther Rose mosaic graces Living Water’s courtyard.

As the winner of a contest to guess the total number of tiles, Aubrey has the privilege of unveiling the new courtyard masterpiece.

Four tiles that form the center black cross were

added, and 282 red heart-shaped tiles created the sur- rounding heart. Five white petals depict trumpeting angels atop clouds and green leaves. T e mosaic’s outer edge is a ring of gold representing

never-ending blessedness in heaven. T e insertion of sky-blue tiles completed Living Water’s 21st-century tile rendition of the original 16th-century Luther Rose. Living Water eventually plans to tie the iconic

symbol of Lutheranism depicted in the mosaic to a new water feature: a proposed 33-foot-long dynamically moving “living” water sculpture. 
