gainst this backdrop there is increasing demand for modular design concepts


allowing standardised control from simple to high capacity machines and permitting the re-use of programs and software code. The drive to achieve highly dynamic performance means that the mechanical characteristics of linear and rotary actuators must be perfectly matched to the electrical control system with extremely high levels of precision and speed. With this in mind, Parker Hannifin has


engineered its new generation of servo drives and controllers to complement its range of electromechanical linear actuators, that offer OEMs the ability to source actuators, motors, gearboxes, servo drives, controls and visualisation from a single manufacturer.


CONTROL PLATFORM (PAC) Parker Automation Controllers (PAC) are multi-functional ‘Control Platforms’, combining the capabilities of a PLC with visualisation and motion control, acting as the machine’s ‘intelligence’. Developed around an Atom-processor-based architecture, the PAC has no fan and no moving components making it reliable and robust due to greater shock and vibration resistance. Machine communication is in real-time via EtherCAT. Two further one Gigabit Ethernet interfaces are available for programming, file transfer or communication to a supervisory system. PAC also offers an externally accessible SD memory card and a further removable media for datalogging via the two USB 2.0 interfaces. Thanks to an integrated webserver the


PAC control platform can fulfill visualisation tasks as well. Presentation and operation can be made on various visualisation clients e.g. remote touch displays, tablets or smartphones.


FLEXIBILITY MEETS SIMPLICITY (PSD) Parker Servo Drives (PSD) are designed to work alongside the PAC controller and other centralised control architectures, can be used in a wide range of

applications and is well suited for highly dynamic packaging and production machinery. All drives have an Ethernet- based fieldbus system for fast and flexible communication with the controller enabling a customisable, modular and flexible system. A multi-axes version with common power supply is available for systems with multiple servo axes. Power supply modules and axis modules are linked via the shared DC bus, which manages the power flow between the individual axes and increases the energy efficiency of the overall system. The compact design of the PSD series keeps space requirements in the control cabinet to a minimum. For smaller systems e.g. labeling machines, Parker also offers a single axis version with the same functionality but with a lower output range.


SAFETY TAKES PRIORITY Both PAC and PSD use the Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) protocol to maximise system safety, eliminating the need for additional safety wiring. The powerful and flexible programmable safety control is integrated as an expansion module into the EtherCAT network, removing the need for an external stand alone safety PLC or relay. The FSoE master can manage all safety

components such as safety inputs and outputs as well as PSD drive controllers with integrated safety technology


e.g. safe standstill, safely limited speed or position.


Parker’s safety controller meets the requirements of IEC 61508 SIL3 and DIN EN ISO 13849 PLe.


SOFTWARE CONTROL The extensive capabilities of the new controller and drive series are programmed using the


Parker Automation Manager software. Based on CoDeSys 3 it integrates all tools for PLC


programming using IEC61131-3. The software offers a guided set-up process to commission the motion drive train, automatic motor recognition with data retrieved from integrated Parker Linear Actuators and Electro Cylinders database, and function block libraries to create the motion programs. With the help of the function block


point-to-point movement, electronic cam, cam switching mechanism and 3D- NC-control, individual axis movements as well as synchronised multi-axes movements can be realised and thanks to the integrated editor with visualisation library, even complex processes can be shown on an external display unit via web visualisation.
