PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE A NEW LEAN SOLUTION SIMPLIFYING MACHINE INSTALLS

A new lean manufacturing solution named Pro.Lean, has been introduced by Progea that gathers production data and down-time information in real time, preventing inefficiency or malfunction issues.

Pro.Lean is a Movicon module that makes it possible to gather and record production data in auto-mode as well as sort information and display it simply and clearly - all while viewing key performance indicators (KPIs) in real time. It is possible to determine the exact OEE - showing the actual

productive effectiveness at the plant, forestalling the production system’s weak points and effectively improving productivity. This solution uses Movicon’s Business Connectivity and Data

Collection technology, which makes it possible to manage Historian components in fully automated and wizard mode. Data and dashboards are gathered, while key performance indicators (KPIs) and reports obtained from sorting data by shift, by date, by operator, by machine or by product, are shown in real time, along with highlighted down-time data.

The new R2100 from Pepperl+Fuchs is able to evaluate objects in two dimensions with an array of beams. The R2100 evaluates a 2D area over 88 degrees by employing multiple emitter elements arranged side by side. Using several fixed beams to perform a virtual scan provides a higher resistance to mechanical stress, is less complex than a rotating mirror system and eliminates the need for moving

are utilising eye-safe, Ultra-IR LED emitters. These infrared LEDs provide an alternative to costly, temperature sensitive and potentially harmful laser emitters. The R2100 is equipped with Ultra-IR LED technology and delivers an eight metre operating range to objects, without the need for a reflector. Also, Ultra-IR LEDs produce a larger light spot compared to laser emitters, giving the R2100 an advantage over laser scanners when detecting objects with irregular surfaces or textures. Sensors with pulse ranging technology (PRT) emit a very short, high intensity light pulse and calculate object distance based on the time of flight of the reflected light.

The new ‘Go’ series of industrial cameras from JAI feature a 5-megapixel global shutter CMOS imager capable of delivering full resolution images at 107 frames/second over a 2-channel, Power-over-Mini- Camera-Link interface. These new cameras have an industrial grade rating of 10G vibration and 80G shock which makes them well suited to applications that require repetitive camera movement or on robotics/unmanned vehicles. The monochrome GO-5000M-PMCL

and colour GO-5000C-PMCL cameras offer ROI and binning capabilities and allow easy configuration to meet a range of customer requirements for resolution, speed and optical formats. The sensor’s five micron square pixels mean that the centred 1,080p or VGA ROI imaging options are

fully optimised for 2/3" and 1/3" optics respectively. The camera can be operated with a single ROI or up to five ROIs simultaneously. Multiple sensor taps and the dual Camera Link interface enable users to select the most appropriate frame rate and data rate for the application using Base, Medium or Full configurations. Noise reduction facilities include analogue and digital gain controls that reduce the amount of quantised noise in low light images. In addition, monochrome

binning, both horizontal and vertical, is available for high sensitivity low noise imaging.

PACKED FULL OF FUNCTIONS

In smaller production plants, a lot of time and effort is needed to implement safety measures. A solution to help alleviate this can be found in Panasonic’s light curtain SF4C. Emergency stop switches or safety

door switches can be connected directly and without the need for a safety PLC to the light curtain. The additional contacts needed for monitoring the power relays can also be connected directly to the light curtain. Up to now, six safety relays were needed to switch off the machine when up to three light curtains were mounted in cascade. Thanks to the technology of the SF4C light curtain series only two safety relays are needed. You can even do without the signal towers normally used in safety critical plants. The light curtain series SF4C comes with externally controlled, highly visible red, yellow, and green LED signal lamps.

The SF4C has safety class 4 (PLe,

SIL3) and a beam pitch of 10 and 20mm. Added benefits include muting, fixed and floating blanking, extraneous light check and avoid function (ELCA), low weight, integrated error display and password protection.

Omron has expanded its safety product portfolio with the release of the new OS32C safety laser scanner which, thanks to its design, can help to simplify machine installations. The scanner has an increased safety

detection area of four metres and a 15m warning zone, providing increased flexibility with regard to application solving and deployment. The OS32C can be used in a number of applications such as collision avoidance for AGVs (automated guided vehicles), intrusion detection as a flexible alternative to safety light guards, or for presence detection within a machine’s hazardous area (floor scanning). The OS32C provides Safety Category 3 (without a dedicated safety controller) and complies with global safety standards ISO 13849-1 PLd and SIL 2. A new feature called Pollution Tolerance Mode (PTM) ensures the OS-32C is

more stable when working in dirty or dusty environments. The PTM mode uses a dynamic filtering algorithm to eliminate false detection of airborne particles and contamination to ensure the device operates reliably, even in adverse environmental conditions.
